Abstract
We look at models of coupled quintessence with a ΛCDM background. Differences with the standard concordance model only appear at the perturbative level. We show that the coupled model can remove the observed σ8 tension in redshift space distortion data. We also use a spherical collapse model to estimate how future cluster number counts can be used to distinguish between the two scenarios.
