José Afonso


Biographic notes
Observational studies on galaxy formation and evolution from the highest redshifts. The research makes use of some of the deepest astronomical surveys available to try to understand the evolution of the star-formation and Active Galactic Nuclei phenomena in galaxies, along with the formation of (proto-)clusters and large scale structure. A particular emphasis exists on the development of the next generation of radio surveys (e.g., The Evolutionary Map of the Universe - EMU, that will use the upcoming ASKAP telescope and the Westerbrok Observations of the Deep Apertif Northern Sky - WODAN, that will use the future Apertif instrument on the Westerbrok radio telescope; both from 2013 onwards).
