Understanding the nature of pulsations and the physics of the Ap stars

Abstract
We aim at combining interferometric and asteroseismic data, and bolometric flux to derive accurate fundamental parameters (radius, effective temperature (Teff), mass) of Ap stars, and set them in the HR diagram. We will apply our method (6 common publications) to 15-20 Ap stars whose angular diameter can be determined by interferometry. We will explore the discrepancy between interferometric and spectroscopic Teff to learn more about the complex physics of these peculiar stars, and to provide a Teff calibration. For all stars found in the theoretical instability strip, we will study pulsations. Comparison of model and observed oscillation frequencies, in targets where the latter have already been detected, will be used to further constrain the excitation models. Moreover, the more promising targets not yet know to pulsate will be considered for future photometric/spectroscopic campaigns in search for pulsations. The PICS would strengthen our fruitful collaboration between France and Portugal.
