Accretion and chromospheres of Classical T Tauri stars

Peter P. Petrov

Abstract
Magnetic activity of T Tauri stars is manifested by X-ray flares, chromospheric emission, and surface cool spots. In Classical T Tauri stars(CTTS), in addition to the magnetic activity, magnetospheric accretion is  going on, giving rise to rich emission spectrum and additional (non-stellar) continuum, veiling the photospheric spectrum. The amount of veiling has been used to estimate the accretion rate. From new high resolution spectra of several CTTS we found that  considerable part of the veiling effect is caused by chromospheric line emission filling in photospheric lines. The chromospheric emission is enhanced in spot-like areas associated with footpoints of accretion channels. This may be considered as an effect of accretion-powered chromosphere.
