Abstract
Gravitational waves are a prediction of Einstein's General Theory of Relativity, and correspond to tiny ripples of spacetime propagating across the Universe. On February 11th 2016, the LIGO collaboration announced their discovery spreading a huge excitement among scientists. In this talk, I will discuss about the recent discovery, explaining its significance for our understanding of gravity from the smallest to the largest scales in the Universe, and the bright new research avenues it opens up.
