Stars and Gas in the Antennae as seen with the MUSE Integral Field Spectrograph

Abstract
I will present the closest ongoing major galaxy interaction, the Antennae (NGC 4038/39). After reviewing the properties of these galaxies and some of the most important results found in recent literature on this system, I will introduce the unique capabilities of the MUSE spectrograph that is used for the present study. I will then present our analysis of the merging system, and show selected results in terms of stellar and gas kinematics, maps of physical properties of the ionized gas in the system, properties of the HII regions extracted from the data, as well as preliminary results related to the detection of interstellar medium in absorption.
