Abstract
GalileoMobile is a volunteer travelling science education programme that brings Astronomy closer to people and communities across regions that have little or no access to outreach programmes. By organizing astronomy-related activities, mainly at schools, we aim at fostering a will of learning through the exciting wonders of our Universe.
GalileoMobile also extends its impact to a worldwide audience through its deliverable products (documentaries and photobooks). The GalileoMobile products convey a message of interaction beyond borders and thus of “unity under the same sky”, while raising awareness for the diversity of human cultures, and ultimately inspiring similar initiatives.
The GalileoMobile project was initiated in late 2008 by a team of astronomers and educators inspired by the International Year of Astronomy 2009 (IYA2009) and was designated as a Special Project within the IYA2009 framework.
Today, GalileoMobile is continuing the efforts undertaken during the IYA2009 with the support of “Universe Awareness” (UNAWE). GalileoMobile also cooperates closely with the “Galileo Teacher Training Program” (GTTP), "A Touch of the Universe", and the “Office of Astronomy for Development” (OAD) set up in 2011 by the International Astronomical Union (IAU).
This Wednesday, we will watch the documentary "Bajo un Mismo Cielo" (~50 minutes), filmed during our first expedition to South America in 2009. The audio is in Spanish and English subtitles will be available.
