Ricardo Gafeira is a researcher at the IA / Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Coimbra. He graduated in Physics with a minor in Space Sciences from the University of Coimbra in 2009, obtaining a Master's in Astrophysics and Instrumentation for Space from the University of Coimbra in 2011 and a PhD in Physics from the Max Planck Institute for System Research and the University of Göttingen in 2018. He is a member of the IA since 2021.
His current research interests focus on observational and instrumental solar physics. He is currently the co-I of one of the Integral Field Units based on Image Slicer that will be installed in the future European Solar Telescope (EST), coordinates the promoting commission by the UC for the participation of Portugal on the EST consortium, is coordinator of the Astronomical Observations Unit of the Geophysical and Astronomical Observatory of the University of Coimbra (OGAUC) and operates the OGAUC Spectro-Heliograph.
He teaches the solar physics module of the Solar Physics and Plasmas course at the Master's Degree in Astrophysics and Instrumentation for Space at the Department of Physics of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra.
